This page aims to provide further, more tangible support to those who may be currently struggling with their own cooperatives.
Worker Cooperatives
Often, it is good to share thoughts, tips and struggles with others who are also running cooperatives. Whilst other cooperatives may not be entirely like yours, some food for thought is always beneficial.
Worker Cooperatives is a website platform which allows members of different cooperatives to talk and discuss different topics online. This is a small community, meaning there is potential for more in-depth conversations regarding these issues, as well as potential for sharing good practices and highlighting further resources.
Whilst this does come at a small price, it is a good resource to keep in mind.
Business Support
The following website provides business support specifically for people who are just starting their cooperatives.
From Co-operatives UK, a trusted resource, this six-day tailored support with a cooperative expert will help you get your business started, as well as linking you with an existing, succeeding cooperative – almost like a shadowing experience to learn more about good practices!
There are also options for shorter, more specific support, if this is more suited to your needs.
Learning Programme
workers.coop, in partnership with Co-operatives UK, have created a network of people who all share the aspirations and passion of cooperatives.
This is a resource for those who want to learn more about cooperatives. It is a developing activity programme, with a duration of twelve months, which aims to allow owners of cooperatives, as well as individuals, to benefit from co-created learning, as well as a mutual sharing of resources and insights.
Globalisation Challenges: The Development of Cooperatives
If you are considering globalising your cooperative, it is important to know what opportunities and challenges surround it.
The link below will direct you to a peer-reviewed article which considers the opportunities and threats of globalising your cooperative. It discusses topics such as the viability of your cooperative being globalised based on its current strengths and global weaknesses; the role of these organisations in promoting the local development and stability of local communities; and the tensions and potentialities that internalisation entails for cooperatives.
This is a great place to start if you are considering globalising your cooperative.
